
The German-Japanese violinist hails from Freiburg and began playing the violin at the age of four. She studied with Wolfgang Marschner in Freiburg and Igor Ozim in Cologne and Bern before going on to complete her studies under Latica Honda-Rosenberg in Berlin in 2017. Since then, she has been teaching violin in Berlin at the Julius Stern Institut – Universität der Künste Berlin, as well as at the private Feuerlein Geigenakademie. She holds first prizes from the Jugend musiziert and Tonkünstler Baden-Würtemberg competitions, second prize from the Paul Hindemith International Competititon in Berlin, and a gold medal from the Concours Européen pour Jeunes Solistes in Luxembourg. As a soloist of the Berlin Residence Orchestra under the baton of Jon Bara Johanson, she has performed works such as the Mendelssohn Violin Conerto, the Concerto funebre by K. A. Hartmann, and Mozart’s Sinfonia Concertante. In 2012 she performed the Bach Double Concerto in the presence of German Chancellor Angela Merkel, at a memorial service for victims of right-wing extremist violence. Michiko plays a Joseph Guarneri violin on loan from a private collection.
